Penny Brewill RE
Penny studied Fine Art at the University of the West of England, Bristol (1986-1991) including a Foundation Studies Diploma in Art and Design, a BA(Hons) in Fine Art and a Post Extension Studies Diploma in Fine Art Print-making. She was awarded a Higher Diploma in Fine Art Printmaking (HDFA London) by the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London. (1991-1993).
She has taught as a Lecturer in Fine Art Printmaking at Winchester School of Art (Southampton University) at the Slade, Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, University of the West of England, Bristol, De Montfort University, Leicester, Norwich School of Art, Surrey Institute, Farnham and at the Ulster University. She has also been an External Examiner for the University of Kent.
Penny’s important contributions to the world of fine art printmaking was recognised by her election as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers (R.E.) in 2008.
She has served as a committee member on the Printmakers Council and as a consultant to various bodies. She worked as a Master Printer for the renowned Curwen Studio in Cambridge, and carried out print research under Professor Stephen Hoskins at The Centre For Fine Print Research, University of the West of England.
She has won prizes and awards for her work including from the Boise Scholarship (which facilitated a tour of printmaking studios in the USA), London Print Studio Award, Lark Trust Prize, Printmakers Council Open Print Biennale and the Birgit Skiold Memorial Trust Award.
Penny is an Artist Member and Education and Outreach facilitator at Seacourt Print Workshop, continuing a long association with us which began in 1987 when she was originally mentored by our esteemed founders, Jean Duncan and Margaret Arthur.
It is in recognition of her long association with Seacourt, and her outstanding contribution to fine art printing as an artist and teacher, that Penny was invited to hold our first solo exhibition in the newly refurbished and re-opened Seacourt Print Workshop.
